Rugby World Cup - BBPA comments on Twickenham pub hours issue

The BBPA has commented on the Metropolitan Police announcement that people may not be admitted to venues during the Rugby World Cup after 22:00 in an attempt to “try and ensure the impact on local residents and the community was kept to a minimum.”

Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive, comments:

“This approach is draconian and unjustified. It does not seem it will apply around other venues, and it will only encourage more rapid drinking prior to any closures.

“It is also very unfair on pubs that have been preparing to welcome all those wanting to enjoy a drink after the game in the pub, and sends out the wrong message about Britain’s hospitality trade.”
