Soft Drinks Levy - Brigid Simmonds writes in Pub & Bar Magazine

British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) Chief Executive, Brigid Simmonds, has written an ‘Industry Opinion’ column in the latest issue of Pub & Bar magazine, highlighting some of the key issues for beer and pubs from the planned soft drinks levy.

Whilst alcoholic drinks will be excluded from the Levy, soft drinks form an important part of the sales mix for pubs. As Brigid outlines in the column, it’s important not to penalise soft drinks customers (especially as soft drinks are a popular choice for those who are driving), or create a ‘shandy tax’ by taxing those choosing a lower strength option.

The BBPA has already held discussions with the Treasury to ensure that pubs are not unduly burdened.
