Members of Parliament honoured with ‘Beer Champions’ award in Parliament

Members of Parliament who champion Britain’s beer industry were honoured yesterday evening with an award in Parliament.

A select group of MPs were chosen to be honoured as a BBPA Beer Champion and presented with a trophy, in partnership with Long Live the Local. The award is an initiative from the BBPA, to recognise the role of MPs who supported Britain’s national drink since the start of the 2017 Parliament. It recognises acts of advocacy in Parliament, in votes, supportive motions, and debates.

In particular, the award highlights the support of MPs in securing successive freezes in beer duty which secured thousands of jobs and millions of pounds worth of investment in the brewing and pubs sector.

Brigid Simmonds OBE, Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pub Association, said:

“This award recognises MPs for their invaluable support for the Great British pub and Britain’s historic brewing industry. I want to thank MPs from across the house for the work done in securing two beer duty freezes in this parliament, and for their support for the brewing and pubs sector since the 2017 election.”
