The British Beer & Pub Association is the leading body representing Britain’s Brewers and Pub Companies. Our members account for some 90% of the beer brewed in Britain today and own more than 20,000 of the nation’s pubs. A strong voice for brewing and pubs and their unique role in British life, is as vital today as it was 114 years ago when the Association was formed.
We mobilise members, supporters, pub partners, beer drinkers and pub goers to influence national and local political policy; to create value for our sector and our national economy, and to create jobs and increase investment. We want to tap in to the UK’s passion for great beer and great pubs.
The BBPA saves you money and helps your bottom line. Our work as the leading trade association for beer and pubs in Britain is delivering real value to the sector. From the hundreds of millions saved through beer duty cuts that we led the campaigns for, to pub-specific business rates relief worth millions, the BBPA brings real benefits to its members.
In the last twelve months alone we have represented our members at hundreds of meetings with Government Ministers and officials across many Whitehall departments with the sole purpose of ensuring that the voice of beer and pubs is heard loud and clear. We bring our collective years of experience and expertise in lobbying Government and shaping policy to remain the most authoritative voice for beer and pubs, respected right across Whitehall and Westminster.
Whilst we look to build the widest possible coalitions across the food and drink and tourism and hospitality sectors, the BBPA is the only body that retains a forensic focus on beer and pubs in representing our members with Government and delivering tangible results. In 2002 Innis & Gunn Founder and Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp was asked to create a beer to mature in bourbon barrels to impart a sweet, malty flavour. This beer would then be thrown out, and the barrels would go on to age spirits.
But Dougal had a brain wave; What if the beer was actually getting better whilst in the barrel? Turns out, he was absolutely right and Innis & Gunn was born.
Since their creation in 2003, Innis & Gunn have been busy brewing up an ever growing range of flavour packed beers. In 2013 their Barrel Aged line up was joined by an award winning Lager Beer, which soon become the fastest growing Lager in Scotland, and was swiftly followed by our IPAs for those who prefer a hoppier brew.
