Emma McClarkin, CEO of the Welsh Beer and Pub Association, said:

“We are deeply disappointed that the only application to be the Deposit Return Scheme administrator for Wales has not been accepted by the Welsh Government.

"This is a significant set-back and risks delaying when a DRS can be launched in Wales. Any delay could cost hundreds of millions of pounds in fraud, stifle industry investment in the circular economy, and limit how soon environmental benefits come into effect.

"This issue needs to be urgently addressed once a new government is formed in May. We urge all parties to work with industry and find a practical way forward so that an interoperable scheme that cuts litter, boosts recycling, and kickstarts the circular economy can be delivered.”
